Using the Image Crop Miser ExtensionThis training will walk through the steps involved with using the Image Crop Miser extension to crop out parts of TIF files. This extension works well on digital orthoimagery and DRG's. It enables the operator to use smaller file sizes for portability or for sending to other users. It maintains a TIFF world file (in this case, with a .tifw extension) for georeferencing purposes. Even though this seems like a GRID-type process, you do not have to have Spatial Analyst for this to work. Step 1 - Obtain the Extension from the ESRI ArcScripts ServerGo to the following ESRI site: http://gis.esri.com/arcscripts/details.cfm?CFGRIDKEY=907822216
Download the zipped file and extract to the appropriate "ext32" directory on your computer. On my system, this is located at C:\ESRI\AV_GIS30\ARCVIEW\EXT32. Step 2 - Load the ExtensionUnder File/Extensions, click on the "crop2" extension, then click "OK". Click on "Make Default" if you always want this extension loaded.
Step 3 - Verify the extension has been loadedThere should now be a new icon on the toolbar for Views.
Step 4 - Load a TIF image into the View and set the Crop extentRememember that the image must be in TIF format. Select the Crop Miser icon (left click). Place the cursor on the image, hold down the left mouse button, and drag the cursor to define a rectangle. Release the mouse key when completed. The rectangle must be fully within the image or an error message will appear. Look in the upper right hand corner of the example below to see the cursor and the rectangular bounding box.
