NRCS Announces Sign-up for conservation Security Program
Farmers in the Little Lost Watershed may be eligible for Stewardship Payments

ARCO, Idaho, April 03, 2008.—USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service State Conservationist Rich Sims today announced the 2008 Conservation Security Program (CSP) sign-up will be held April 18, to May 16, 2008 in the Little Lost Watershed.  The Little Lost watershed covers 44,617 acres located near Howe and Arco. Approximately 76 Farm and Ranches in Butte, Custer, Lemhi and Clark counties will eligible.

CSP rewards agricultural producers who are practicing high standards of conservation on their operations as they address natural resource concerns.

"By addressing these concerns in the Little Lost Watershed, CSP will maximize significant environmental benefits," Sims said.  "However, going one step further with these concerns is the overall goal for CSP participants."

Date                    Information Meeting Location                 Time
April 15, 2008       Howe Community Center, Howe, Idaho          1:00 p.m.

To assess their current levels of conservation relative to program requirement, producers should review the CSP self-assessment available at http://www.nrcs.usda.gov/programs/csp/ or in hard copy at USDA Service Centers. The same site shows a map of the Little Lost Watershed. To be eligible for CSP in Idaho in 2008, a majority of a producer's agricultural operation must fall within the boundaries of this watershed.
