Idaho Bulletin 360-5-7

July 7, 2005

SUBJECT:  PER - Fiscal Year 2006 Training Needs Inventory

TO:  All Employees, NRCS, Idaho

Purpose.  To request FY 2006 training needs for all employees

Expiration Date.  September 30, 2005

Action Required by: July 27, 2005 and August 10, 2005

It’s time to begin the process to develop the FY 2006 training needs inventory. This requires input by all employees. Training needs are identified as a result of the development and review of an employee’s Individual Development Plan (IDP) between the employee and supervisor.

The following documents are attached for use in developing training needs:

  • FY 2006 NEDC Course Listing

Course descriptions and prerequisites can be viewed at the NEDC website www.nedc.nrcs.usda.gov

  • List of proposed FY 2006 statewide courses

  • List of mandatory courses for NRCS employees

  • Worksheet to enter identified training needs

Use the attached worksheet to complete the required action:

  • List all FY 2006 training needs

  • These include NEDC courses, statewide courses and workshops, and other formal courses (i.e., PowerPoint, University training, etc.)

  • Employees can prioritize up to two NEDC courses that require travel

  • If you applied for a FY 2005 NEDC course, and for whatever reason did not attend, you will need to resubmit the need.

Idaho training is offered by various sources and methods including:

  • NEDC - These are formal training courses, with tuition and usually with travel, that are offered nationally through the National Employment Development Center.

  • Statewide training and workshops - These are more formal than OJT and include training sessions given by area and state office personnel or training given regionally to several states. There is usually no tuition for these courses. There may be travel costs.

  • Other Formal - These training opportunities are offered by other agencies or companies and usually include tuition.

Completed worksheets for all employees are to be submitted by supervisors to the appropriate Area Conservationist, Assistant State Conservationists or State Administrative Officer via email by July 27, 2005.

Area Conservationists, Assistant State Conservationists and State Administrative Officer are to review, compile and submit the worksheets to Sue Ellis, Training Officer by August 10, 2005.

Upon receipt of the completed worksheets, the Training Committee will review the lists to determine priorities for FY 2006. The committee will distribute a list of all approved FY 2006 training when it is finalized.

The reason for this time line is that the enrollment deadline for NEDC courses in ICAMS is August 31, 2005.

Please contact your Area Conservationist, Assistant State Conservationist, State Administrative Officer or Sue Ellis, Training Officer if you have questions concerning the training needs process or need assistance in developing your inventory.
