Idaho Bulletin 230-5-4
May 3, 2005
SUBJECT:
EOP - "The Chinese Legacy in Idaho"
TO: All
Employees, NRCS, Idaho
Purpose. National Asian
American/Pacific Islander Month Meeting
Expiration Date.
September 30, 2005
May is National Asian American/Pacific Islander (AA/PI)
Heritage Month, and the 2005 theme is “Bridging the Gap
Between our Differences: Promote Diversity.” Asian
American/Pacific Islander Heritage Month is a time to reflect on the
contributions that AA/PI’s have made to the American society and to the rest of
the world.
At the Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) we
believe that our effectiveness is a direct result of our trained and diverse
work force. As we continue to increase our awareness of cultural and gender
differences, the understanding and appreciation of diversity will provide a
spirit of unification to achieve a common goal – more conservation on the land.
In recognition of AA/PI
Heritage Month there will be a program held on May 12 and 26, 2005. The guest
speaker is Susie Osgood. Susie Osgood is the Forest Archaeologist from the
Boise National Forest (BNF). Her presentation is titled "The Chinese Legacy in
Idaho”. Susie organizes and administers the Passport in Time (PIT) program on
the BNF. They have an active archaeological dig at an old Chinese mining
camp. This program will show the impact Chinese people had on Idaho’s history,
and tie into the NRCS cultural resource program. The program will start May 12,
at 9:00 am at the Research and Extension Office located at 16952 S. 10th Ave.,
Caldwell, ID. The program will be repeated that afternoon at 1:30 pm in the
Agriculture Research Office, 3793 N. 3600 E., Kimberley, ID. Then, on May 26,
Susie will present her program at 1:00 pm at the NRCS State Office, Boise, ID in
the NRCS conference room.
Please take the time to participate in this NRCS program.
Supervisory approval should be received prior to attendance.
