Idaho Bulletin 230-5-3

April 12, 2005

SUBJECT:  EOP - Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day

TO:  All Employees, NRCS, Idaho

Purpose.  To provide information on Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day

Expiration Date.  September 30, 2005

This year’s theme for the annual event of Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day is “Sharing Power and Possibility”.

This event provides the opportunity for girls and boys between the ages of 8 through 15 to explore the work place and learn more about what they want their future jobs to be like, while also considering how their future work will fit into their overall lives.

Idaho NRCS and the Federal Women’s Program encourage you to participate in this activity and take a day during the week of April 25 – April 29 to provide a child (family member) with this opportunity.

As part of the day’s activities, appointments could be set up with several of your colleagues to talk about their jobs and careers. You and coworkers could provide hands-on-training to the students on different career choices available in our agency.

If you choose to participate in this activity, make sure you contact the child’s school and obtain an excused absence. Most schools recognize the benefits of this program and will let your child accompany you to work. To alleviate liability problems, all participants must have the attached release form signed by their parent/guardian and presented to the office supervisor on the day of the activity. If you plan to go to the field, you must have a release form signed by the landowner(s) you visit. Personal vehicles must be used on these field visits.

We’d like students to complete an evaluation or write a summary of their experiences. Send evaluations to Patti Hurley, Federal Women’s Program Manager, 1441 Fillmore, Suite A, Twin Falls, Idaho 83301. Pictures are also encouraged. Students will receive a letter and a small token in recognition of the day.

If you have questions, call Patti Hurley at (208) 733-5380, Ext. 131 or send her an email.
